BGI SUPPORTS CYCLING
The CIBA Foundation is the charitable arm of the Central Indiana Bicycling Association. The CIBA Foundation provides financial and other resources to partner organizations. These partner organizations support the foundation's goal of promoting the benefits of cycling to the Central Indiana community.
The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association is a group of Indiana bicyclists promoting trail advocacy and preservation in Central Indiana. They work to improve trails in areas of heavy use, they educate cyclists on proper trail maintenance and riding behavior, and they also work to build new trails in Central Indiana.
Indiana BikePort works with local organizations and businesses to provide the bicycle solutions. This includes first-class bicycle facilities, such as secure short-term and long-term parking, access to changing rooms, showers and other amenities. Indiana BikePort enhances communities by expanding transportation choices and encouraging bicycling as part of a healthy lifestyle.
BGI is a proud partner with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, the City of Indianapolis/SustainINDY, and the Indianapolis City Market in the Indy Bike Hub YMCA. This unique facility supports bike commuting in downtown Indianapolis with secure bicycle parking, showers and locker rooms, a fitness facility, and bicycle sales and service from Bicycle Garage Indy Downtown. The facility, in the east wing of the historic Indianapolis City Market, is adjacent to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. The Hub is also the home of Bicycle Indiana and IndyCOG offices.
INDYCOG’s mission is to promote bicycling as a safe and viable means of transportation and recreation in Indianapolis. This membership-based organization began in 2010, and is Indy’s only bicycle education and advocacy group. Besides advocating for pro-bicycle public policy such as extending the hours of the Monon Trail or legislating a Complete Streets policy for Indianapolis, they also are involved in community building and fundraising events such as “2 Wheels, 1 City” and “Pedal Indy”.
People for Bikes is a membership organization with the mission of "putting more people on bikes more often." People for Bikes lobbies for bicycle friendly policy, promotes bicycling to the public, supports groups pursuing similar goals, and distributes grants for bicycle facility projects. People for Bikes works with political leaders and national advocacy groups to encourage development of additional projects and other ridership building initiatives.
Shifting Gears is a program that takes in used bikes and refurbishes them for charitable organizations. Shifting Gears is a partnership including Bicycle Garage Indy, Indiana Department of Correction, and the Volunteers of America of Indiana. You can donate nearly any bike and receive a tax deduction. Bikes may be dropped-off at any BGI retail location.
